Climate Forecast System
CFS Outlook November 2nd 2009
The November 2nd Climate Forecast System temperature outlook. The model has been relatively consistent in its suggestion that much of the remainder of 2009 will be dominated by warmer than normal conditions over the northwestern half of North America, while near to below normal temperatures can be expected over the central and eastern half of Canada and the United States. This forecast is very close to the climatological norm we see in an El Nino year.
As we push deeper into 2010, the CFS suggests that below normal temperatures will be common over southern latitudes while warmer than normal conditions dominate central and northern latitudes of North America. In fact, highly anomalous warmth is forecast over much of Canada during the winter and spring months. The CFS maintains continuity with the idea that a cooler than normal winter is in store for the eastern part of the nation.
