Climate Forecast System
CFS Outlook December 7th 2009
The December 7th Climate Forecast System temperature outlook. The model remains consistent in its suggestion that much of the remainder of 2009 will be dominated by warmer than normal conditions over the northwestern half of North America, while near to below normal temperatures can be expected over the central and eastern half of Canada and the United States. This forecast is very close to the climatological norm we see in an El Nino year. This particular fun of the CFS shows a bit more cool air over the lower 48 states during the winter months.
As we push deeper into 2010, the CFS suggests that below normal temperatures will be common over southern latitudes while warmer than normal conditions dominate central and northern latitudes of North America. In fact, highly anomalous warmth is forecast over much of Canada during the winter and spring months. The CFS maintains continuity with the idea that a cooler than normal winter is in store for the eastern part of the nation.
