Snow Cover From Space

Thursday February 18, 2010 06:29 AM

Today's image is from the MODIS project provided courtesy of the University of Wisconsin. This high-resolution image shows a nice close-up of the Cape and Islands yesterday (2/17/10). The snow cover from our recent storms shows up quite nicely. Notice that the Island of Nantucket is "brown." The reason? Rain. During this past winter weather event, mainly rain fell on Nantucket and temperatures rose into the 40s. Additionally, the "backlash" snows that moved across the Cape Tuesday night were weaker that far south. More of these high-resolution satellite images are available in our Maps & Charts archives section. Just search for "Satellite."
