Snow on the Way

Tuesday March 2, 2010 07:51 PM

Another winter storm is approaching Cape Cod, destined to bring another round of very strong winds, coastal flooding and accumulating snow. While precipitation will break out around the area toward dawn and continue off and on throughout much of the day on Wednesday, it appears the worst of the storm for us here on the Cape will be later Wednesday afternoon and most especially Wednesday night.

During this time frame, northeast winds will increase to 30 mph with gusts to 45 to 55 mph a good bet. In addition, temperatures will fall to the freezing mark, allowing snow to accumulate much more readily than during the daylight hours. Consequently, a solid 4 to 7 inch snowfall is in the forecast at the current time, and this should lead to some tough travel Wednesday night. Snow will continue at varying intensities into Thursday. Some scattered power outages are possible thanks to the high winds and heavy wet nature of the snow.

Tides remain astronomically high as we are just coming off of a full moon. As such, strong onshore winds and deep low pressure will create another round of damaging beach erosion and minor to moderate coastal flooding. Check back for updates throughout the day on Wednesday and into Wednesday night.
