Here We Go Again

Saturday March 20, 2010 06:54 AM

Don't be fooled by this amazing stretch of weather. It's only mid-March and the other shoe is bound to drop. Just consider this a bonus and accept the reality that it won't last.

Today (Saturday) looks like the last of the very nice early spring weather. A backdoor cold front will drop south across New England tonight, shifting winds to the northeast and setting us for a much cooler and cloudier day on Sunday. This front will hang near the region into early next week and eventually be replaced by another strong coastal low pressure system. It is looking increasingly likely that yet another nor'easter will develop later Monday and peak in intensity on Tuesday before gradually winding down on Wednesday. More rain, wind, coastal erosion and chilly temperatures are in the forecast.

Today's image is from the GFS computer model. It shows precipitation (shaded) and winds during the storm. Notice the onshore flow and expansive rain shield.
