Back Door Front
Saturday June 28, 2008 08:43 AM
A back door cold front is bisecting the region Saturday morning, with remarkably different conditions on the north and south sides of the front. This satellite image from 9AM Saturday morning clearly shows the placement of the frontal boundary.
To the north of the front, cool, stable marine air and lots of low clouds and fog have pressed southwestward from the Gulf of Maine. To the south of the front, very warm and humid air remains in place with sunshine. Here on Cape Cod, the front is cutting right through the region and making for a wide range in conditions around the area.
On the Outer Cape from Wellfleet north to Provincetown and even along parts of Cape Cod Bay near RT 6A from Brewster to Sandwich, it is cloudy with temperatures in the 60s to low 70s. Meanwhile the Mid and Upper Cape south of RT 6 are partly to mostly sunny with temperatures already in the mid to upper 70s!
This front will oscillate north and south through the morning, causing variable and shifting winds and subtle changes in temperatures. However, later today the warm June sunshine will help wash out the front and southwest winds should take hold everywhere. In the meantime, if you are looking for sunny and warm weather, try the south-facing beaches from Chatham to Falmouth!
