Gustav Strengthening, Beginning To Move

Thursday August 28, 2008 07:40 AM

Satellite Photograph

Compare yesterday's satellite imagery of Gustav to the one above and you can see that Gustav has become a more intense storm in the elapsed time. Higher cloud tops and a more prominent outflow pattern (the clockwise "smear" of clouds emanating from the storm) are sure signs of a healthy storm. Forecasters expect Gustav to dump as much as 25 inches of rain on neighboring islands before moving toward the Gulf of Mexico and developing into a major storm (one with a strength of category 3 or higher). Check the latest track to see where along the Gulf Coast Gustav will likely make landfall.
