Surface Analysis
Tuesday October 7, 2008 06:14 AM

A large cold dome of high pressure has built down from the central and northern reaches of Canada and into the Northeastern corner of the United States. This high has brought with it the coolest air so far this early fall season. If you look carefully at this surface analysis from early Tuesday morning, you can see the extent of the chilly air - with readings in the 20s and 30s across much of the interior Northeast and into Canada. These locations are closest to the dome of high pressure and therefore saw light winds overnight which allowed for good radiational cooling.
Tonight, this dome of high pressure will shift further south and east, allowing winds to go calm here on Cape Cod as well. As a result, CapeCodWeather.Net expects a chilly night across the Cape Tuesday Night / Wednesday morning, with lows dipping down into the lower 40s for many areas, with some spots possibly dipping into the mid to upper 30s.
