Wet Week Ahead For the Lower 48

Monday November 10, 2008 07:08 AM

This image is 5-day forecast of total precipitation made by forecasters at NOAA's Hydrometeorological Prediction Center. Notice the large expanse of rain (and snow in the colder spots) that is expected between Monday morning and Saturday morning across the nation. The culprit(s)? Well, while high pressure is currently dominating the weather over the eastern 2/3rds of the country and providing quiet weather, things are going to turn much stormier during the second half of the week as an intensifying storm center moves from the southern states Wednesday and Thursday up into the Northeast by Friday and Saturday. This storm system will spread several large shields of rainfall along with it - with areas of heavy rain likely. Behind this storm, cold air will build southward later next weekend, with things potentially turning much colder thereafter.
