Wet Weather Returns Later Thursday
Wednesday November 12, 2008 07:10 AM
Thursday Update: Clouds moved in Wednesday Night and will lower and thicken through the day on Thursday, with showers developing Thursday evening and lasting into Friday morning. While heavy rain is not expected, pockets of light to moderate rain are likely and some areas of thick fog are possible overnight. Up to 1/3rd of an inch of rain could fall tonight.
The bigger storm event comes Saturday and Saturday Night as a strong cold front barrels into the region, producing downpours and possibly some thunderstorms. Strong southerly winds will develop as well. Check back for updates.
Wednesday: A surge of warm, moist air will ride northward up the coast Thursday, propelled along by a weak low pressure center at the surface. As this warmer, more buoyant air encounters the cooler, drier and more dense air over New England it will be forced to rise, ultimately causing showers to break out around the region later Thursday. By Thursday night, periods of rain will be likely, perhaps totaling as much as 1/2 inch by Friday morning. Unfortunately, while this disturbance will pull away Friday, clouds will linger and more wet weather is expected by Saturday.
