Strong Winds Saturday
Friday November 14, 2008 07:19 AM
This graphic, from the NAM 12km model, illustrates forecast wind speeds (in knots) at about 1000 feet up in the sky during Saturday afternoon. Notice the orange and yellow shaded regions correspond to over 35 knots. Though the temperature profile of the atmosphere will not be overly conducive to transferring these strongest winds to the surface, conditions do appear favorable for southerly winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts possibly approaching 50 mph Saturday evening. Additionally, if thunderstorms or pockets of squally heavy rainfall develop (most likely Saturday night), even stronger winds would be possible.
